The Seventh-day Adventist presence in the Glen Burnie area spans over a century. It began with a small group Bible study held in a building now known as Jeanette’s School of the Dance, located on 5th Avenue in Glen Burnie. As the group grew in size, their dedication to prayer and Bible study led to the establishment of a church building and school in 1958.

Funding for these projects was raised through creative efforts, such as selling donuts and organizing other fundraising activities. The original buildings constructed during that time remain in use today. Over the years, the school was repurposed as a community services center once the need for a school diminished as the youth grew up. During this period, the church supported an active Pathfinder Club, which not only traveled to places like Bermuda and Colorado but also focused on instilling Christian values in young members. Many of those young Pathfinders are now leaders and members of the Living Word Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The Community Services Center has served the Glen Burnie area for over three decades, offering a range of services to meet community needs. It has hosted Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, provided space for Sunday church groups, and facilitated other outreach initiatives.
The church itself has been a beacon of hope and service in the community. Over the years, it has organized smoking cessation seminars, health fairs, 5K runs, bread-baking classes, Daniel and Revelation seminars, and many other activities designed to share the message of Jesus with the local community.

In March 2015, the Brooklyn Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Glen Burnie Seventh-day Adventist Church united to form the Living Word Seventh-day Adventist Church. This new congregation is committed to expanding its ministries and sharing the love of Christ with even greater fervor.
