We Are the World

Preacher: Pr. Jeff Kern

Church: Living Word Church

1. Main Point

Though we live in the world, Christians are not of it. Our purpose is to represent and expand the Kingdom of God through transformed lives, compassionate service, and unwavering love for people.

2. Key Scriptures

  • John 17:15 – “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.”
  • Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
  • Luke 4:18-19 – Jesus’ mission: to preach, heal, liberate, and restore.
  • Matthew 5:13-14 – “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”
  • Ephesians 5:8 – “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

3. Supporting Points

  • The Kingdom of God is transformational, internal, and active, not merely institutional or structural.
  • True service to God requires humility, transformation, and prioritizing people over programs or traditions.
  • Being salt and light means personal connection with Christ and visible, impactful living in the world.
  • Religious form without heart transformation is empty; the true measure of faith is love in action.
  • We are called to serve one another and especially care for the marginalized, sick, and forgotten.

4. Our Message

  • In what ways do our lives proclaim the presence and values of God’s kingdom in our community?
  • How can we distinguish between religious appearance and genuine transformation in our personal walk?
  • Are we using truth to uplift others, or are we hoarding it for our own spiritual comfort?

5. Our Conduct

  • Do our daily actions reflect the salt and light Jesus described?
  • Are we engaging with others in a way that points them to Christ?
  • How do we respond when called to serve inconveniently or sacrificially?

6. Practical Application

  • What simple, consistent acts of service can I begin this week that bring heaven’s reality closer to someone?
  • How can I practice being “in the world but not of the world” in my work, home, or school?
  • Who in my community needs to see God’s love through my involvement, prayer, or presence?

7. Personal Commitment

  • Am I willing to “check my ego at the door” and unite with others for God’s mission?
  • What steps can I take to deepen my personal relationship with Christ so that I may reflect His light more clearly?
  • How can I intentionally create space in my life for others – to pray, visit, and encourage them in love?

Prayer Points

  1. For Transformation – “Lord, transform my heart to reflect Your kingdom in my words and deeds.”
  2. For Service – “Jesus, help me to humbly serve others as You did, seeking nothing in return but Your glory.”
  3. For Unity and Compassion – “Holy Spirit, unite our church in love and compassion, putting people above structures.”
