What Shall I Cry?

Sermon Notes: “What Shall I Cry?”

Text: Isaiah 40:3-6

I. Our Message: A Call for Change

  • Reference: Luke 3:7-10
  • Reflection: How does the message of change differ from the common messages we hear today?
  • Further Study: Compare the preaching of John the Baptist to what is preached today. How repentance is in immediate opposition to selfishness?

II. Our Conduct: Living by our Message

  • Reference: Matthew 24:35-45
  • Reflection: How does our conduct as individuals and as a church reflect the message that Jesus is coming again?
  • Further Study: Reflect on a story of someone whose life was a testament to their faith. How can we emulate such conduct in our daily lives?

III. The Priority of Our Message

  • Reference: Acts 12:1-14
  • Reflection: Are we, like Rhoda, sometimes too focused on the joy and uniqueness of our Adventist message that we forget our basic Christian responsibilities?
  • Further Study: Consider the balance between preaching the imminent return of Jesus and meeting the immediate needs of those around us. How can we effectively do both?

Questions for Reflection and Further Study

  • Our Message: How can we ensure that our message of repentance is both clear and compassionate, calling for a radical transformation in the lives of those who hear it?
  • Our Conduct: In what ways can our daily lives more accurately reflect the message we proclaim? Consider your personal, family, and church life.
  • Our Priority: How can we balance the urgency of our message about the second coming of Jesus with the immediate needs of our community and world?
  • Practical Application: Reflect on the story of the deacon in Manaus. How can we overcome our hesitations and fears to preach the gospel in our neighborhoods and communities?
  • Global Mission: Considering the global mission of the church, how can we better support efforts to provide both spiritual and physical aid to those in need?
  • Personal Commitment: What specific action can you take this week to demonstrate the fruits of true repentance in your life?

Prayer Points

  • Pray for the courage to live and proclaim the message of repentance boldly.
  • Ask God to help our conduct reflect the message we preach, especially in showing love and compassion to those in need.
  • Seek God’s guidance on how to prioritize our message and actions to effectively prepare the way for His coming.
