God v. (Your Name Here)

Sermon Notes: God v. (Your Name Here)

Pr. Jeff Kern

1. Our Relationship with God

• Theme: God calls His people into a unique relationship marked by justice, mercy, and humility, reflecting His divine character.

• Scripture: Micah 6:1–8

• God confronts Israel’s unfaithfulness, reminding them of His steadfast love and calling them to live according to His covenant.

• The threefold requirement: act justly, love mercy, walk humbly with God.

• Illustration: The small-town courtroom anecdote highlights the importance of truth and integrity in our relationships with others.

2. God’s Righteousness and Our Response

• Key Idea: Outward religiosity is meaningless without inner transformation.

• Scripture Insights:

• Micah 6:3-5: God recounts His acts of faithfulness (Exodus, leadership of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam) to remind Israel of His care.

• Emphasis on internal character over external rituals.

• Connection to Jesus’ teaching: true faithfulness requires justice, mercy, and humility (Matthew 23:23).

• Illustration: The pump letter from Desert Pete exemplifies faith and trust—priming the pump (acting faithfully) ensures abundant provision.

3. God’s Call to Action

• Micah’s “Rule of Threes”:

1. Walk Humbly with God:

• Depend on God in faith, even when His plans conflict with personal desires.

• Faith is fidelity: trust in God’s control over every circumstance.

2. Act Justly:

• Justice is central to God’s law and must be evident in our dealings with others.

• Reflect God’s justice, balanced with mercy, as shown in Jesus’ life and teachings.

3. Love Mercy:

• Mercy isn’t earned; it reflects God’s character and is a call to extend grace to others.

• Example of Napoleon’s pardon: mercy is given, not deserved.
