“A Tale of Two Natures”

Sermon Notes: “A Tale of Two Natures” (Galatians 5:16)

Key Scripture References:

• Galatians 5:16-17: Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.

Structure of the Sermon:

1. The Duality of Human Nature

• 1 Corinthians 2:14: The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.

• Christians live in a tension between the flesh (natural desires) and the Spirit (spiritual calling).

• The natural man relies on rationality and is resistant to spiritual understanding, while the spiritual man discerns life through the Spirit.

• The two natures are antagonistic; choosing one suppresses the other.

2. Victory Through Walking in the Spirit

• Ephesians 5:8: Walk as children of light.

• Walking in the Spirit diminishes the power of the flesh.

• Decisions must be made daily to prioritize spiritual growth and obedience.

• The Spirit transforms our character, aligning us with Christ’s example.

3. The Works of the Flesh vs. The Fruit of the Spirit

• Galatians 5:19-23: Works of the Flesh and the Fruit od the Spirit

• Works of the Flesh: Includes sexual immorality, idolatry, hatred, jealousy, selfish ambitions, and other sinful behaviors.

• Fruit of the Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—manifestations of a Spirit-led life.

• The fruit is holistic, growing in clusters, reflecting a total transformation of the believer.
