Text: Luke 4:18-19

I. Definition of the Kingdom of God

  • Reference: Luke 3:7-10
  • Reflection: The Kingdom of God is a natural contrast to the world’s darkness, and demonstrates the divine desire to foster joy, righteousness, and mercy.
  • Further Study: Compare the statement of purpose of Jesus in Nazareth with our mission. Read Prophets and Kings pp. 717-721.

II. Requirements of the Kingdom

  • Reference: 1 Peter 2:9
  • Reflection: Is spiritual lineage different from earthly heritage? What makes us worthy of being called Royal Priesthood?
  • Further Study: Reflect on the recommendation of Paul to the Ephesians to be living as children of light, embodying the values of the Kingdom (Ephesians 5:5, 8-9).

III. Taking Back the Kingdom

  • Reflection: What are the light given to God’s People that are today abandoned or is no longer exclusive to us?
  • Further Study: Consider the Early church work in the social issues. Acts 2:38-47 and Acts 4:32-37. These passages describe the early church’s transformative effect on society, highlighting communal living, sharing of resources, and the impact of preaching the Gospel.

Questions for Reflection and Further Study

  • Our Message: How does the history of D. Pedro and his commitment to a cause parallel the biblical concept of taking back the Kingdom of God?
  • Our Conduct: In what ways can we embody the “children of light” principles as described in Ephesians 5:8-9, especially in current societal contexts?
  • Practical Application: What specific actions can we take to address the issues mentioned in the sermon (e.g., human rights, care for the poor) as part of reclaiming the Kingdom of God?
  • Personal Commitment: Reflecting on the transformation story from Pitcairn Island, how can the Bible inspire us to bring about change in our communities?

Prayer Points

  • Spiritual Awakening: Pray for a deeper understanding and revelation of what the Kingdom of God truly represents and how we can actively participate in its manifestation on earth.
  • Transformation: Ask for God’s transforming power to work in us and through us, enabling us to bring light into the dark places of our world.
  • Action and Commitment: Seek divine guidance and strength to commit to actions that align with the Kingdom’s values, advocating for justice, peace, and righteousness in our communities.
