The Last Thing He Told Him

Scripture Reference: Isaiah 39:8

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Kern

1. Key Sermon Points

A. The Importance of Final Words

• People place great significance on the last words spoken by individuals.

• Examples of historical figures’ last words reveal their final thoughts and attitudes.

• The Bible contains significant final messages from prophets and leaders.

B. King Hezekiah’s Story

• Hezekiah faced a great threat from Assyria but initially trusted in God.

• He made a mistake by attempting to buy peace with wealth, stripping God’s temple.

• When sick, Hezekiah pleaded with God for healing, receiving 15 extra years of life.

• Instead of using this time wisely, he showed off his wealth to the Babylonians, leading to future captivity.

C. The Power of Testimony

• A compromised faith weakens a believer’s testimony.

• Hezekiah’s failure to give glory to God led to consequences for his descendants.

• Jesus warns against lukewarm faith (Revelation 3:16).

• True faith should draw others to God, not push them away through inconsistency.

2. Key Bible Passages

• Isaiah 39:8 – Hezekiah’s response to Isaiah’s prophecy about Babylon.

• 2 Kings 18:13-16 – Hezekiah’s attempt to pay off Assyria.

• 2 Kings 20:1-6 – Hezekiah’s illness, prayer, and extended life.

• Revelation 3:16 – Warning against lukewarm faith.

3. Our Message: What This Teaches Us About God

• God is faithful even when we make mistakes.

• He gives us opportunities to trust Him, but our choices have consequences.

• A faithful witness matters; our actions can strengthen or weaken our testimony.

4. Our Conduct: How We Should Live

Reflect on these questions:

1. How do my daily actions reflect my faith in God?

2. Have I ever compromised my testimony by prioritizing worldly things?

3. When faced with difficulties, do I seek God first, or do I try to solve problems on my own?

5. Practical Application: How Can We Apply This?

1. Living with a Strong Testimony

• Do my words and actions align with my faith?

• Am I showing others the power of God in my life?

2. Trusting God Over Worldly Security

• When challenges arise, do I trust in God’s provision or try to “buy” my way out?

• Do I seek God in prayer when making decisions?

3. Preparing for the Future

• Am I investing in my spiritual life as much as I invest in material security?

• How can I leave a legacy of faith for those who come after me?

6. Personal Commitment: What Steps Will I Take?

• I will strive to be a consistent witness for Christ.

• I will seek God first in my decisions and not rely on my own strength.

• I will remain humble and trust in God’s timing and plan for my life.

7. Prayer Points

1. For a Faithful Testimony – Lord, help me to be a strong witness for You in my words and actions.

2. For Trust in God’s Plan – Teach me to trust You rather than worldly solutions in difficult times.

3. For Humility and Obedience – Give me a humble heart to follow Your guidance in all things.
